Kariknallen. Green. 5 km. 300 meter difference in altitude. 2.5 hours.

“Knallparkeringen’ above Rockvallen in Bruksvallarna. Take the road to Walles from Stigmyhrs, and turn left to Rockvallen before you pass Össjöån.
Continue up the road until you reach a parkingsign up to the right. The parkingplace is the starting place.
DESCRIPTION OF THE TRIP:
A suitable tour for the whole family, with easy hiking through birchwood in the beginning, and from tree line, you can choose between a steep and shorter route, or choose the longer tour, less steep way up to the top of the cottage. The path is well marked and generally dry and fine. If it’s not been raining you can go in your sneakers.
On the way up you pass a small brook were children like to play at, and there are benches, for resting of tired legs.
On the top you get rewarded with a fantastic view, you have the village Bruksvallarna below your feet. If you look to the east, you will see Funäsdalen village and Funäsdalsberget, to the south rises Storskarven 1260 meters above sea, in the west Hästkläppen and a little further away on the horizon you see the Skars mountain, 1594 meters above sea level. Look a little more north and you see Mittåkläppen, perhaps the most famous mountain in the whole area, with its special profile.
History of Kariknallens top cottage began in 1957, when an old “Fjös” (barn) was moved up in the mountains. It was then rebuilt and 1959 was it ready for serving. Then as now, is the newly baked waffles with cloudberry jam a favorite among guests. The cottage has seasonal open both summer and winter, and in winter you can get there with Snövesslan. Call for info Opening 0684-200 56. As a short extension you can do a peak ascent, such as Beritkläppen located a few hundred meters from the cottage.
EXTENSION: ROUND Kariknallen. GT32
Around Kariknallen. Blue. 16 km. 350 meter height difference. 5 1 / 2 hours.
Here you need boots or stout shoes.
When you passed the tree line on the way up, select the left, less steep route, to Kariknallen. After a short walk, you will reach a birch grove, and when you passed it, the bigger path makes at turn and goes up to the right in a lowering up towards Kariknallen.
Now you keep going straight on, pass the sign that shows for exampel how to go to Tänndalen with a walking symbol. This summer trail is a little unclear marked, especially in the beginning – but it is not difficult to follow it up to Svalåtjärn. After a few hundred meters, on top of Svalåkläppen, the route goes under the telephone line. After about 1 km you pass Svalån. The trail is made of footbridges and it´s also orange marked to Svalåtjärn cottage (where also the telephone line goes).
Turn right at the cross mark by the resting cottage, the sign is pointing to Ramundberget and the trail goes north of the eastern edge of Skenörsfjället. The summer trail goes left of the winter route and is orange marked. It´s easy to follow, and on your right hand you have the winter trail. A wonderful view meet you on the way down to the next crossroad at Hästkläppen.
When you come to the crossroad, you can make a detour to the west along a small path to Skenören, about 1.5 kilometers from the crossing. The Lake is beautifully embedded at the foot of Skenörsfjället, and is a nice place for a coffee break and perhaps a swim on a hot summer day. Back at the crossroad you take the path down towards Bruksvallarna, between Hästkläppen and Kariknallen. Continue on the path straight towards the birch forest and over Össjöån. Here you reach a four road cross called “Wallestorget.
Choose to go right and follow the cross marking towards Bruksvallarna, which is also a cross country track in winter. After about 1 km you will pass Össjöån again. The water often have a high temperature and a small waterfall fills the a little cove. Continue the path to Rockvallsvägen, which goes up to the car park for the Kariknallen tour. Near the car park is Fjällbäcken restaurant, which offers good lunches and snacks a few days each week. Check opening hours on the phone 0684-20321.
